Animesh Mahata



Animesh Mahata (b. 1986, Jhargram, West Bengal, India) received his BVA in Sculpture from the College of Art and Design, the University of Burdwan in 2008 and completed his MFA from Banaras Hindu University, Department of Sculpture, Banaras in 2010.
Animesh has participated in many national and international exhibitions, which include the National Exhibition by Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi (2013, 2015, 2018); the Student Biennale-Kochi Biennale (2018); Bangkok Biennale (2019). He has also displayed his works at CIMA Art Gallery, Kolkata (2014); Birla Akademy, Kolkata (2015); Emami Art, Kolkata (2014, 2016, 2017); Rabindra Bhawan, New Delhi (2016, 2017, 2018); Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi (2016-17); Nehru Centre, Mumbai (2018); Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (2019); Art Centrix Space, New Delhi (2021). Animesh has received the National Scholarship (2009); Ravi Jain Memorial Foundation Fellowship (2010); AIFACS Award (2014); Camel Art Award (2021) for his artistic practice. He is an Assistant Professor at Amity University, Gurgaon.
Animesh’s work is a response to the diversities of his surroundings, both subjectively and collectively. He is primarily interested in the different levels of subversion that alter the personal when it encounters socio-political issues.
Animesh lives and works in New Delhi, India.
