About the Artist

Rumi is an artist-sculptor-curator and an independent researcher. She has attained her Diploma in Applied Art from Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai (1999), and has completed her PG in Modern and Contemporary Indian Art and Curatorial Studies from Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Mumbai (2017).

Recently she was a Curatorial Intensive South Asia Fellow with Khoj International Artists Association/Goethe Institut, for which she curated – ‘The Mahad Satyagraha- ‘Erasure’ as a form of assertion’ (CISA), Khoj, 2019. She has curated ‘Broken Foot- Unfolding Inequalities’, 2020, a co-curated project, along with 60 socio-politically conscious artists.

She had her debut solo exhibit at the Museum Art Gallery, Mumbai (2011), and her second solo ‘Sediment’ – an exhibition of drawings and sculptures, at the Hirji Jehangir Gallery, Mumbai (2017).

She has participated for Text as Text, Art and Soul gallery, Mumbai (2018); Pune Biennale (2017), Florence Biennale, Italy (2017);  Kolkata International Performance Art Festival (KIPAF), Kolkata, India, (2017); the Palette, Charity Auction for Edelgive Foundation (2013); she has exhibited at Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Mumbai for the BMW Guggenheim Lab, New York (2012); the Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (2012). Her ‘Sediment’ sculptures were commissioned for the World Trade Centre, Pune (2017).
