“Andal”, is a continuity of myth, belief and longing. A yearning of the girl, poet, goddess to unite with the divine beloved. Through this work, the artist has tried to connect Andal, Meera and Radha with a common thread of spirituality.
Sarika Poornanand attained her B.F.A. degree from College of Art, New Delhi (1997). She has had various solo exhibitions at Artwalk, Trident, Mumbai (2016), Artists Center, Mumbai (2015 & 2006), Kashi Art Cafe, Fort Kochi (2007 & 2002) and Triveni Art Gallery, New Delhi (2003). She was awarded the SPIC MACAY Gurukul Scholarship (2001) under Ms. Anjolie Ela Menon. She has extensive experience in the field of art education as she was a teacher in Doon International School, Dehradun. She has also taught at Scholar’s Home, Dehradun and at Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai. A theater lover, she has been involved in the set designing and production of various plays staged in Dehradun. Sarika now lives and works in Mumbai.
Sarika’s paintings always have a bright palette in an attempt to counter the grimness of the portrayed realities. A sense of design with an air of whimsy connects the visual and brings consistency to the works.
