The work “No One Writes to the Colonel”, inspired by Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s novel by the same title, is an effort to capture the void that engulfed the old Colonel in the book. The work is also an attempt to render the loneliness which encompasses the members of this ‘modern’ civilization; for the artist it is euphemism of a society which attaches priority only to consumerism and the production of commodities.
Suvanwita holds a B.F.A and an M.F.A. in Sculpture from Kalabhavan, Visvabharati in Kolkata. She has exhibited at the Emami Chisel Art Annual Exhibition, (2015),the Annual Exhibition in I.C.C.R., Kolkata (2014), Nandan Art Gallery, Kala Bhavan, Visvabharati (2011), the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata (2010 & 2009), State Art Gallery, Guwahati, Assam (2010). Suvanwita was awarded the Visvabharati Student Scholarship in 2011 and 2010, and the National Scholarship to Young Artistes from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India in 2011.
