Katyani mainly works with ink on paper but has recently expanded her style and up scaled the size of her work. She enjoys merging recognisable Indian motifs with body modifications and adornments. This work “Petals” is a very spontaneous painting on pieces of glass found, in Katyani’s studio when she was working at Space118. She was able to work with usual freehand style and due to the nature of the medium able to trace the shape of the figures to make both the pieces – the glass and the ink to work as a set.
Katyani is a visual artist who obtained her degree in B.F.A in Film and Television Studies from Aberystwyth University, Wales (2016). She was one of the 50 independent artists displaying their work at the Irregulars Art Fair (2018) and has also participated in the Magnetic Fields Festival in Alsisar, Rajasthan (2016).
In the past, she has worked as a Junior Designer and Illustrator at LWD, New Delhi and as a Fine Art and English teacher for Maharaja Sumer Singh School in Kishangarh, Rajasthan, where she organized groups, for children to paint murals.
