Artwork Description

The new series of embellished photographic prints by Shivanjani Lal titled “With Our Back Turned”, is an exploration of a monument in Karnataka, India. The images were taken on a film camera in 2009 during a family trip to India. These images are then embroidered with red thread. The thread represents herself bound to this land but also removed from it.

About Artist

Shivanjani received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from University of Wollongong, Wollongong (2005), Graduate Certificate in Arts (Major: Arts Management) from University of Melbourne, Melbourne (2008) and Bachelor of Design Art Degree (Major: Photo media and Visual Arts) from Australian Academy of Design, Melbourne, Victoria (2012). She also has a Graduate Certificate (Major: Art and Community Engagement) from VCA and MCM Melbourne, Australia (2014).
