This static image is from the hybrid film called ‘Radiant Chromosphere’ which is a part of a solo project based on the manifestation of nomadism. This piece considers the transition from an agricultural economy to the present day tech economy, in relation the question of energy and is depicted through a self-assembling ‘Tree of Life’ in which solar panels combine with the fruits of the land.
Ranu Mukherjee received her B.F.A. in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston and her M.F.A. in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London. She is the Assistant Chair of Graduate Fine Arts at California College of the Arts. Ranu has held solo exhibitions at Gallery Wendi Norris, San Francisco (2013), San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose (2012), Frey Norris Contemporary and Modern, San Francisco (2011) and Noma Gallery, San Francisco (2010). Her group shows include Gallery Espace, New Delhi (2013), Aggregate Space, Oakland (2013), SOMArts, San Francisco (2012), Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts, San Francisco (2011), Kala Art Institute Gallery, Berkeley (2010) and Galeria AFA, Santiago (2010) amongst many others.
Ranu has also worked on several collaborations with other artists and contributed towards public projects such as the Bus Kiosk Poster Series, San Francisco Arts Commission (2014).
