Chetnaa



Chetnaa (b. 1981, New Delhi, India) completed her Master’s degree in Painting from the College of Art, New Delhi in 2010-11.
She has had two solo shows, Noir, curated by Kanika Anand, at Alliance Francaise, New Delhi, 2016 and Sublime Space, curated by Kanika Anand, at Art District XIII, New Delhi in 2015. She was also a part of the 1st Indian Ceramics Triennale, ‘Break- ing Ground’, at JKK, Jaipur in 2018. Her shows & residencies include Imprint, After, curated by Sitara Chowfla, Pulp Society, New Delhi, 2020; AD Design Show, Studio Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2019; Of Paper, Art Motif, New Delhi, 2019; Condition Reports, curated by Ranjit Hoskote, India Art Fair, New Delhi, 2017; ‘Everything is Black & White’, Palette Art Gallery, New Delhi, 2018; Artist residency, Art Ichol, MP, 2017; Forms of Devotion: Spiritual in Indian Art, curated by Sushma Bahl, Art, Sala Municipal De Exposiciones De Las Francesas, Spain, 2016; ‘AiR’, Artist in Residence, residency at the Glenfiddich Distillery, Scotland, 2014; to name a few. She is the recipient of the Emerging Artist of the Year award by Glenfiddich, 2014; Honorable mention Award by SCZCC in 2016, and the All India Award for Drawing by AIFACS, New Delhi in 2011.
Her geometric abstractions are drawn largely from the landscape and architecture of her city, keen observations of the metropolis translated into an eloquent schematic of lines and markers. Initiated as symmetrical arrangements, Chetnaa’s work reveals the need to deconstruct the order she had once sought, so as to build a new geometrical logic that feeds her minimalist aesthetic.
