ABOUT LAHAR MEHTA
Lahar is an Artist and Designer based in Mumbai. She began her career as an Interior Designer, using an amalgamation of ecology and design aesthetics while she simultaneously experimented with art in community spaces through painting and teaching. A stint at the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad where she worked towards community development resulted in her project ‘Co- Create Art’, which synthesizes collaborative art as a tool for nourishing the consciousness and spirit, by regenerating spaces with beauty and colour. Lahar’s creative methodology allows participants to invoke hidden depths and allows their essence to be expressed. She incorporates different modalities to engage in an expressive arts process which allows adults and children to explore their own images and individual creativity in a dynamic and fun environment.
WHAT WILL BE TAUGHT
The session aims at using modalities of the arts to provoke thought and internal dialogue, to aid in releasing old versions of thought patterns. The session will begin with a discussion around “what is art” (through slides and videos) and discover how art can become a medium for personal expression, as well as a space to connect with our values.
The class will next explore surface emotions, allowing themselves to immerse into the space, followed by exercises for using art to connect with self. Next, a series of exercises for using art to connect with others will explore the values of empathy, compassion and gratitude. Various art materials and forms of music and dance will be incorporated to engage with these processes. Participants will take home all of their personally created artworks.
