ABOUT SHITAL MEHTA:
Shital Mehta is an artist and art educator. Immediately after graduating from the J.J. School of Art, Mumbai she joined Pundole Art Gallery as a designer and had the opportunity to interact and design for artists such a M.F. Hussain, F. N. Souza, Akbar Padamsee etc. For the last 40 year she has been involved in various courses and research projects connected with art education, especially for children and across ages. During years of teaching, Shital has never stuck to conventional methods but always had an experimental approach to art through various mediums and themes. Over the years, Shital has presented papers on Art Education at the World Congress seminars in New York and Chicago, and has been regularly contributing in National Art Educators Association (NAEA) annual conventions held in the U.S. She regularly conducts art workshops for Museums, Art Galleries and various art institutions in India and abroad.
WHAT WILL BE TAUGHT:
In this workshop, participants will be given an introduction to Charcoal Drawing as an art medium. The class will begin with learning how to do contour drawings in 5-6 different ways, using different parts of the palm to understand about the quality and character of the lines. Participants will then make gesture drawings, which will explore tones and masses created by charcoal with subtle change in pressure. This is followed by drawing basic shapes turning them into shaded realistic 3D forms which will teach light and shading. Finally, an exploration in abstraction by leaning to see, experience and express will end with participants creating their own charcoal drawings on half Imperial paper.
WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED:
Charcoal sticks, drawing paper, props and objects for drawing, fixative, capsicum and butter paper.
WHAT YOU NEED TO GET:
A rag cloth or towel. Wear old clothes or carry along an apron.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Ages 14 and above
