- How do I apply for the Space118 Fine Art Grant?
A: You can apply by filling the application form and submitting your resume with your portfolio with last five years work. Please send in your artworks in the PDF or PPT format, where in you will specify the Title, Medium, Size and Edition of the work for every artwork. You can also send in your PDF/PPT via wetransfer or dropbox. If you are sending multiple emails, please specify in the title of the email the number of the email. For example :1/3 , 2/3 and 3/3. If you are sending video works, please send the vimeo link with the details of the video in terms of title, size and duration.

A: The deadline for submitting the application for the Space118 Fine Art Grant is 25th August 2019. - Where can I send my application?

in the subject line.
4.How long is the studio given out to the artist?
A: The studio space will be given out for a period of 2 months from 1st November 2019 to the 12th of January 2020
5.Will the grant money cover the accommodation?
A: The grant has to be used for the production only. The accommodation will be provided at Space118.
6.Who can apply?
A: An Indian artist under the age of 40 who has a B.F.A. degree/ or equivalent with at least 5 years of experience can apply for the grant.
7.I’m a creative writer (poet, novelist, playwright, screenwriter, etc.), and I’m working on a book. Can I apply for the Space118 Fine Art Grant?
A: No, the Space118 Fine Art Grant is only for Fine Artists. However, there’s a Space118 Contemporaries 2020 is for Art Writers that you can apply for.
8. What will be the selection process?
A: The selection will be done by the jury which comprises of Shilpa Gupta, Mortimer Chatterjee and Anurag Khanna.
9. Are international artists allowed to apply?
A: No, Only Indian residents with a valid passport and residing in the country are allowed to apply for the Space118 Fine Art Grant.
10.Is there an age eligibility or limit for applying?
A: Only artists below the age of 40 can apply for the Space118 Fine Art Grant.
11.What is the cost of the residency?
A: There is no cost for applying for the Space118 Fine Art Grant. A production grant of upto 1 lakh will be provided along with a stipend for food to the Grantee.
12.Are there any other costs to be directly handed over to Space18?
A: No, there is nothing to be paid by the artists. They only have to donate two artworks at the end of their residency ( one will go to Space118 collection and one to the sponsor). Your artwork becomes a part of Space 118’s Collection, which will be catalogued, put on our website and exhibited in the future.
13.Once selected, can the dates be changed?
A: Once the artist confirms the acceptance of the grant, he/she cannot withdraw their acceptance and will have to comply with the schedule provided by Space118.
14.Do I need to have a specific project in mind?
A: Yes, a 250 word proposal explaining what you will be working on during the residency will need to be provided. This is mentioned in the application form itself.
15.Can the project I propose be the completion of a project that is currently underway?
A: Absolutely. The proposed project could be used to further an existing project or a work in progress.
16.I have my two references; do I need to get letters of recommendation from them?
A: No, letters of recommendation are not required from the referees. However, they have to be informed that they could be emailed or called by the jury.
17.Who does one select, as a referee, for the application?
A: An ideal referee would be someone from your area of specialty and/ or a prominent figure who knows your work well and has engaged with it. It could be your Professor, Curator, Artist, or anyone from the field of arts.
18.Would my partner be able to share a week or two of the residency with me as we are travelling together? Are family, children and friends allowed to occupy the room with the artist during their residency tenure?
A: No overnight stays by visitors are allowed at the studios or in any part of the warehouse premises. The residency is for artists who have applied only. Their families, spouses or children are not permitted to stay on the premises.
19.Are the studios/residencies accessible for disabled artists?
A: If you have special needs, do not hesitate to write to us and seek for any information or clarifications.
20. Is there internet access?
A:Yes, we have Wi-Fi, that is accessible from all the 4 studios.

22. Is there a specific size/medium or number of artworks that the artist needs to work on during their residency here?
A: No there isn’t any specific size /medium or number of artworks that the artist needs to work on. However the artist needs to keep in mind that there will be a show at the end of the residency and all 4 studios will be used to curate the show. The artist can have any number of works from 2 – 30 or as many as they would like, as they will be curated for the show once they are made.
23. Upto One Lakh Rupees will be provided for the Grant production, will this cover the stipend for the food?A:Upto One Lakh Rupees will be provided for the Grant production, hence one will need to give a break-down of how and where they will spend the money. Space 118 will link you to a tiffin service and the cost of which will be taken care of by the studio.
