FALSE CEILING / SHUT UP AT CALMSHET
Kamshet, Maharashtra – 2011:
Overlooking the Lake Vadivali in Kamshet, this beautiful cottage houses the art residency, Shut Up at Calmshet, since 2011. Set up by graphic designer Karthikeyan Ramachandran, the residency offers the artists much peace and solitude that they are seeking.
Shut Up at Calmshet opened nearly three years after Ramachandran founded False Ceiling, an experimental art space in Bandra, Mumbai. “Calmshet, as a residency, allows artists to create and co-create with other artists during the appa art fest (artist camp started in the memory of my late father, artist K N Ramachandran). Here, we document the process of every piece created, since the process is the fun part of creating,” Ramachandran shares. “The aim is to create interesting story-based artworks and so far we have over 150+ stories.”
Few of the artists who have participated in the initiative include Bandish Project, Naveen Deshpande, Vasudev Kamat, Kapil Sharma, Kunal Anand, Randolph Correia, Mayur Tekchandani, Ashish Pathak, and James Marron. “And while False Ceiling wound up with the quarantine, since we gave up the space. Calmshet is still up and running for experiments,” Ramachandran says.
