Arjun’s influences come from his childhood village, which he still visits occasionally. At times, when he is alone, he goes tramping in the beautiful countryside: its farms, the hills, the river. The herds of cattle grazing at the village entrance, men and women engrossed in their daily chores and other such commonplace images remain with him. His drawings and etchings are based on these sights. Hence, his art is the expression of these reveries of village life although city life also impacts him. Cows have been worshiped in India since ancient times as ‘Mother Cow’ or ‘Gai Mata’. They are seen as divine beings and are showered with respect. So, getting up close and touching a cow, caressing her head and looking into the eyes proves to be an emotional experience for him.
