1995, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India
Bedamati Majhi is an artist from Bhubaneswar, Odisha and she completed her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting from B.K. College of Art and Craft, Bhubaneswar in 2017 and she is completing her Masters of Visual Arts in Graphic Arts from M.S. University of Baroda in 2021.
Bedamati’s works explore the idea of different forms through lines, where tone plays a major role to enhance the visuals. The inter-working of her subconscious and conscious mind allows her to create with an instinctive flow yet controlled manner. She tries to capture the beauty in mundane objects and places, which comes out in the form of drawings. She has found etching as the best medium of expression as it helps her to restore the ups and downs, the shapes and dimensions, which acts as a journey of visual complexity. She prefers to work in black and white. Having had academic training in drawing and painting, she utilizes the knowledge she has gained in her current practice as well. She is keen on interacting with any sort of object, despite living or nonliving, and reflects on her emotions associated with it.
Bedamati’s concern for her surroundings also extends to her sensitivity to the struggles of people around her. From reflecting on the various works done on the Bengal famine, where people die without food, she could connect that natural disaster with today’s situation where people struggle for their food, for living, and for obtaining their basic minimum amenities to live a decent life
