Chintan Tandel
1997, Navsari, Gujarat, India
Chintan Tandel is an artist and sculptor who completed his Bachelors’s and Masters’s degrees in Visual Arts – Sculpture from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 2019 and 2021 respectively. He lives and works in Vadodara, Gujarat.
In his works, Chintan tries to explain the importance and the beauty of imperfections in human nature. He is inspired by his subconscious thoughts. He doesn’t limit himself to one particular idea but his ideas are free-flowing, often inspired by his day-to-day events and the objects he encounters, bringing into the limelight those experiences that are important for humankind but ironically deemed insignificant. Chintan doesn’t want to portray his inner world directly as he imagines. Instead, he prefers to leave spaces and absences in his works, thereby making incomplete forms, because he perceives a complete artwork as an absolute end to his imaginings. He uses his figurative forms metaphorically, thereby connecting them with his works as well as the audience. The audience thus is allowed to impose their memories and experiences on Chintan’s works. They invariably fill those empty spaces in his works hence connecting with him. Chintan only wants his audience to imagine a complete work, filling in the gaps with their feelings, memories, and their subconscious thoughts
