Kumar Krishna
1998, Jharkhand, India
Kumar Krishna has completed his MVA in Sculpture from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. He has been working with ceramics for the last 6 years and has experimented with and studied the medium extensively enough to know its characteristics deeply. Kumar believes that his experience and knowledge with clay is his major strength.
Kumar lives and works in Santiniketan, West Bengal.
Kumar’s preferred mediums are ceramic and glass. While working with ceramics, he prefers to use the hand-building method. While he pinches and hand-builds, he creates a personal dialogue with the clay. His works deal with the life of people and architecture. The place he is in greatly influences his works. He observes animals from his immediate environment and they become his characters- the residents of his architectural spaces. His characters change with space he is in. He looks at ceramics as a medium-full of possibilities. He has experimented with effects like Raku, Obara, Lustre, Crackled Raku, etc. The sculptural quality of ceramics fascinates him. He is constantly looking to be in new spaces and environments to influence his works.
