Satyanarayana Gavara was born in the year 1997 in Narayanpuram, Balijipeta, Vizianagram district, Andhra Pradesh. He completed his Graduation in Bachelors of Fine Arts from the Andhra University, Visakhapatnam in 2018. He is currently a Postgraduate student at the Department of Graphics, MSU of Baroda. He has attended many workshops and Art Camps across India. In 2018 he received the first Print Biennale India Grand Prize Award at Lalit Kala Akademi, Rabindra Bhavan, New Delhi. He also received the second prize at the All India Art Competition And Exhibition 2019, in its Second Edition, Hyderabad. He recently attended the “National Woodcut Printmaking Camp of Young Contemporary Printmakers in Udaipur, Rajasthan in 2020.
Satyanarayana’s work revolves around the idea of food, it’s utility and social connotation. Apart from being the most essential need, food is also highly celebrated because we relish it. The variety of cuisines at times defines and also preserves the identity of various cultures and traditions. For him the idea of food has many associations like hunger. Hunger induces a lifelong struggle and that remains a dominant factor in his work. The imagery of food is extensively employed in his work. He works with large scale colour woodcuts and small scale etchings.
