Sneha Lakhotia (b.1993, Kolkata, West Bengal, India) studied B.Com (hon) in Marketing from J.D. Birla in Kolkata and pursued a BFA in Painting from College of Arts, New Delhi, 2019 and MVA in Painting from The Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda in 2023. Her work was part of a group show at Earl Lu Gallery, Singapore, 2023, Kochi-Muziris Student’s Biennale in 2023, and a mobile exhibition as part of the Project Equilibrium organised by Sandarbh an artist-in-residence at Sandarbh Art Residency program, Rajasthan, 2023, and International Art Camp, LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore, 2023.

Sneha interned in Drawing Methodology and Story building with Dr. Gagan Singh in 2022. She assisted in COVER-UNCOVER by Nilanjana Nandy in 2020 and Balagan in Metamorphosis & Other Stories by Dr. Ruchika Wason Singh in 2019. She was part of the paper-making workshop by Anupam Chakroborty, Baroda 2022.

Sneha likes to call herself a visual storyteller. She believes that one way of dealing with absurdity in life is through humour. Her works are experimental and research-oriented while simultaneously being light, playful, and participatory. The works have subtle underlayers that stem from her practice of writing, drawing, reading, and building associations with the place, people, and objects around her. The bucket becomes a monster, the lone chair cries to get used, the antennas fight over the death of a sparrow, the fan keeps circling, and the tap keeps trickling forever. She is intrigued by something as banal as the idea of sleep, with its underlying complexities, and has worked in different formats such as DIY, installation, and an interactive game.

Sneha Lakhotia lives and works in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
